About the role:
We have an exciting new position that will bring an important integrated family safety focused service to the Katherine Region.
The Domestic Violence Solicitor – Family Law Practice role provides high quality legal assistance, including duty lawyer services to defendants in Domestic Violence Order matters. There will also be opportunity to provide advice and assistance in child protection and family law matters, with the supervision and mentorship of the Managing Solicitor of the Legal Aid NT Family Law Practice. With a focus on family safety, this position involves working collaboratively with the Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) support worker and with other stakeholders in the region, helping clients access available supports to address their underlying needs.
This role is part of a growing team of Solicitors across the Territory who are specialists in working with perpetrators of family violence. The role is also embedded in a small office with a client support worker and crime and health justice lawyers; and will contribute to implementation of the Model to support the response to DFSV in Katherine and development of a therapeutic domestic and family violence court.
About you:
You want to make a difference and have a passion for working in domestic and family violence. You have exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work non-collusively with people with complex needs who are alleged to use violence either as primary victims or perpetrators.
You have or wish to gain experience working with First Nations clients, including with the assistance of the Aboriginal Interpreter Service (AIS).
You will have high-level of initiative, including the ability to work with minimal supervision in undertaking tasks and addressing challenges. You will have the ability to deliver high quality legal advice and representation to defendants to applications for domestic violence orders, and a range of related child protection and family law matters.
