Private practitioners applying for Legal Aid
If you would like to apply for a grant of legal aid on behalf of a client you will need to provide the following documents.
Criminal matters
- Completed legal aid application signed by your client
- Brief cover letter outlining request for grant of aid and advising of any future court date(s)
- Supporting financial documents:
- 3 months of bank statements for all accounts held in your client’s name
- 3 most recent pay slips (if applicable)
- partner’s financial documents or a signed Consent to contact financially associated person form if in custody (if applicable)
- Any relevant court documents (ie. DVO, charges, etc).
Family matters
- Completed legal aid application signed by your client
- Letter of merit
- Financial documents:
- 3 months of bank statements for all accounts held in your client’s name
- 3 most recent pay slips (if applicable)
- partner’s financial documents or a signed Consent to contact financially associated person form if in custody (if applicable)
- Any relevant court documents (ie DVO, previous Orders)
- Completed Client Assessment Sheet
- Completed Property Preparation Form (if applicable)
CINOP (Child in need of protection)
- Completed legal aid application signed by your client
- Summary of court proceedings
- Any relevant court documents (ie. DVO, previous orders, etc.)
Civil matters
- Completed legal aid application signed by your client
- Letter of merit
- Financial documents
- 3 months of bank statements for all accounts held in your client’s name
- 3 most recent pay slips (if applicable)
- Centrelink income statement (if applicable)
- Partner’s financials (if applicable)
