Legal and health problems are often intertwined. Health justice partnerships insert legal help in healthcare services and teams to:
- Train health workers to identify legal issues when talking to patients
- Identify legal issues and refer patients to appropriate legal services
- Directly provide legal assistance to people within the familiar healthcare setting, before legal problems escalate
This improves the overall health and wellbeing for vulnerable individuals.
In Katherine we have partnered with the Wurli Wurlijang Health Service, Katherine Hospital, Salvation Army and a range of other social support services to provide collaborative case management to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, who suffer chronic illness and who frequently attend the Emergency Department of Katherine Hospital.
