The Disability Royal Commission Legal Service (DRCLS) has been established to assist people to engage with the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (the Royal Commission).
DRCLS is a national legal service, independent from the Royal Commission, providing legal advice, information and assistance to people with disability, their families, carers, advocates and supporters wanting to engage with the Royal Commission. It consists of:
- A central coordinating team and mobile legal advice team, in Legal Aid NSW;
- A National Helpline based in Legal Aid Queensland; and
- Local jurisdiction legal coordinators in each Legal Aid Commission in Victoria, Tasmania, Qld, the ACT, SA, NT and WA.
The Legal Coordinator, NT will be employed by the NT Legal Aid Commission (NTLAC) and supervised by the Managing Practitioner of the NTLAC Civil Law Practice. The Legal Coordinator will develop, build and maintain local relationships to enable timely and accurate client referrals to legal and support services and contribute to and support DRCLS local service delivery in the NT.
DRCLS works in partnership with National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (NATSILS) and collaborates and consults with key stakeholders representing people with disability.
Employees of the Commission have similar working conditions to that of the Northern Territory Public Service.
